他对英国《泰晤士报》表示，他当年其实很容易找到不用这两条斜线的解决办法。网络用户经常抱怨需要不断输入这两条斜线。伯纳斯-李爵说，30年前设计互联网的时候，没想到这两条线后来会给人带来这么多麻烦。
他以幽默的环保角度道歉说，真不知道这两条线浪费了多少时间、打印墨水和纸张。
